Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before rotating through the gravel trap, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
